The Maine Turnpike Authority estimated that the average daily toll traffic exiting from York Barrier's (Exit 1) in June 2008 was approximately 47,800 vehicles.
That's a lot of vehicles and a lot of time wasted if one does not have an E-Z Pass device and has to wait in the cash lane to pay the toll. Commuters could avoid the frustration of sitting in the cash lane while E-Z Pass tag holders whiz by if they apply for and install an E-Z Pass device in their car. The Maine Thruway Authority has made it easy for commuters to apply for and obtain the E-Z Pass device. However, before signing up for the device, commuters first must determine which type of account to apply for. Maine offers two types of E-Z Pass accounts, personal and business accounts. Once an application is approved and accepted an easy path tag is issued, commuters are given an account number and they may sign in to the easy pass website and keep track of their balance.
